Impactful principles & toolset
Use these quick principles (aligned to the WCAG 2.2 AA highlights) when reviewing campus information.
- Look for access statements, captions, and alternate text on event pages (SC 1.2, 1.4).
- Request interpreters or other services at least 5 business days in advance.
- If PDFs or forms are shared, ask whether Microsoft Accessibility Checker and Adobe remediation were completed for reading order and labels.
- Use WebAIM’s WAVE browser extension to review public pages; share links in feedback so staff can resolve issues quickly.
- Keyboard through event pages to ensure menus and RSVP buttons work without a mouse.
- Run Accessibility Insights FastPass or WAVE to capture automated findings.
- Send screenshots or exported reports with your Access Report so teams can prioritize fixes.
Guidance
- Review the event page for access services, location, and contacts.
- Submit ASL/CART or seating requests using the host’s form or the DRC request page.
- Arrive early to check seating, power, and assistive listening availability; notify staff of any gaps.
Do: Share your preferred communication method. Don’t: Assume walk-in accommodations will always be available.
- Use the accessibility map for elevators, ramps, and accessible parking.
- Call 520-621-3268 for real-time navigation or assistance.
- Download digital brochures or request tagged PDFs if documents appear as scanned images.
Use the Access Report to log digital and physical barriers. Include URLs, device/AT used, and any Accessibility Insights or WAVE findings.
